Humanism is the soul of medicine. For surgeons, humanism is reflected in the "warmth of the scalpel". This article analyzes from three dimensions: the internal meaning of humanism, the core characteristics of medical humanism, and clinical practice in hernia surgery. It emphasizes four practical dimensions: empathetic preoperative communication, precise intraoperative operation, postoperative rehabilitation care, and the social responsibility of academic inheritance, and how to integrate surgical skills with humanistic care, to call on hernia surgeons to adhere to the original intention of saving lives and treating diseases.
