Psychological intervention for patients over 70 years old undergoing hernia surgery under local anesthesia

Objective

To investigate the effect of psychological intervention on patients over 70 years old undergoing hernia surgery under local anesthesia.

Methods

Sixty-eight patients (over 70 years old) who had undergone surgery in our hospital from November 2015 to January 2016 were selected as the subjects of this study. They were divided into the routine group and the psychological group by random number method, and 34 patients in each group. The routine group was given routine nursing care, and the psychological group was given psychological intervention on the basis of the routine group. The depression and anxiety of the two groups before and after nursing were evaluated.

Results

After the intervention, the scores of depression and anxiety in the psychological group were significantly lower than those in the routine group with statistical significance (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Psychological intervention on patients who are older than 70 years old undergoing hernia surgery can effectively reduce preoperative anxiety and depression and promote better cooperation of the patient.
