Abstract:
Objective To investigate the experience of the polypropylene mesh used in laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal hernia repair (TEP).
Methods Between January 2015 and February 2015, 31 patients underwent TEP from Zhuolu County Hospital were enrolled. All patients were applied with the polypropylene mesh. The quality of life, visual analogue scale, (VAS) and complication rate were analyzed before and after surgery.
Results The postoperative physiological function, vitality, emotional function and social function scores were significantly higher than those before surgery (P<0.001). The VAS scores of the patients at each time point were significantly lower than those before surgery (P<0.001). One patient (3.2%) had scrotal effusion after operation; no Inferior epigastric vessels injury occurred; 1 case (3.2%) had seroma; the morbidity was 6.4%.
Conclusion The application of polypropylene mesh in patients with TEP can significantly improve the surgical outcome, promote early recovery, and improve prognosis and quality of life of patients.
