Current status of parastomal hernia treatment after ileal conduit diversion surgery

Abstract:

Ileal conduit diversion is a commonly performed surgical procedure following radical cystectomy, and the incidence of parastomal hernia after ileal conduit (ICPH) is notably high. ICPH may lead to a variety of complications. Treatment options for ICPH include laparoscopic repair, open repair, and stoma relocation, etc. This article reviews the incidence, complications, treatment modalities, and outcomes of ICPH, as well as the current controversies surrounding its prevention and management. Additionally, based on the author's clinical experience with ICPH and colostomy parastomal hernias, key considerations and technical points in the treatment of ICPH are summarized and commented upon.
