Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application effect of SBAR communication mode in patients undergoing emergency inguinal hernia surgery.

Methods

Taking the implementation time of SBAR communication mode in Linquan County People's Hospital (July 2022) as the cut-off point, 50 patients with inguinal hernia surgery who underwent routine communication management before implementation (from January to June 2022) were included in routine group, and 50 patients with inguinal hernia surgery who underwent SBAR communication mode management after the implementation (from July 2022 to January 2023) were enrolled as SBAR group, and the patients received management by the same group of nurses (n=32) before and after the implementation. Nursing Assessment of Shift Report (NARS), shift time and clinical evaluation exercise (CEX) before and after the implementation were compared, and compliance behaviors, incidence rates of protocol deviation events and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups of patients.

Results

After the implementation of SBAR communication mode, the shift efficiency of nurses was significantly improved (P<0.05), the shift time was significantly shortened (P<0.05), and the scores of CEX (environment, organizational effectiveness, communication, clinical judgment, humanistic care) of nurses were significantly increased (P<0.05). After implementation, the compliance behaviors rates of good diet control, good recovery exercise, abandonment of bad habits and regular review of patients in SBAR group were significantly higher than those in routine group (P<0.05). The total incidence rate of protocol deviation events in SBAR group (4.00%) was significantly lower than that in routine group (18.00%) (P<0.05). Nursing satisfaction in SBAR group (94.00%) was significantly higher than that in routine group (80.00%) (P<0.05).

Conclusion

SBAR communication mode can effectively improve the shift efficiency of emergency nurses, reduce the occurrence of nursing protocol deviation events, and improve the compliance behaviors of patients with emergency inguinal hernia surgery, with high patient satisfaction.
