Management and safety analysis of ambulatory surgery for inguinal hernia under regular prevention and control of epidemic

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the safety and whole-process management strategy of ambulatory surgery for inguinal hernia under the regular prevention and control of COVID-19 epidemic.

Methods

The clinical and follow-up data of patients who underwent inguinal hernia repair in the Day Surgery Center of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University from September 2020 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

Results

According to a whole-process management strategy designed by multiple departments, a total of 824 cases of ambulatory surgery for inguinal hernia were performed, including 285 cases of open repair surgery and 539 cases of laparoscopic repair surgery, with an operation time of (50.9±22.6) minutes and a postoperative follow-up time of 16.7 (12.1 to 22.2) months. 44 cases of seroma, 1 case of hematoma, 2 cases of incisional infection, and 1 case of recurrence occurred after surgery. There have been no reports of new coronavirus infections.

Conclusion

Strict compliance and precise implementation of the regular epidemic prevention and control management can ensure the safety and good results of the ambulatory surgery for inguinal hernia.
