Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effects of general anesthesia and local anesthesia on inguinal hernia repair.

Methods

Seventy patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair in Shengjing hospital from January 2017 to November 2018 were selected and divided into general anesthesia group (n=35) and local anesthesia group (n=35). Perioperative clinical parameters and complications were observed in both groups.

Results

The operation time, off-bed activity time and hospital stay of patients in local anesthesia group were shorter, but the degree of pain was higher. The incidence of infection, urinary retention, nausea and incision effusion of patients in general anesthesia group was lower, and the differences were significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Patients with local anesthesia have shorter operation time, off-bed activity time and hospital stay. While, there are fewer complications after general anesthesia, and better pain relief after general anesthesia.
