Abstract:

Objective

To explore the clinical effect of using biological mesh in laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) hernia repair to treat adult inguinal hernia on the basis of hernia ring suture to strengthen the transverse abdominal fascia.

Methods

Clinical data of 46 adult patients with inguinal hernia were retrospectively analyzed, who underwent TAPP repair using the porcine small intestine submucosa (SIS) mesh based on hernia ring suture from January 2021 to June 2022 in Tianjin Union Medical Center. Recurrence, pain, seroma, infection and other indicators were observed at 1 d, 7 d, 4 w, and 6 m after surgery.

Results

The laparoscopic operations were successful in 46 patients, with no conversion to open surgery. The operation time was 30-88 min. 32 patients were discharged from hospital 24 hours after operation, and 14 patients were discharged 48 hours after operation. All the 46 patients were followed up for 6 months, and the follow-up rate was 100%. During the period of follow-up, there were were no recurrence, no chronic pain, no infection or foreign body sensation, and 2 cases of seroma.

Conclusion

Biological mesh inguinal hernia repair based on laparoscopic hernia ring suture to strengthen the transverse abdominal fascia is not only safe and effective in adult patients with inguinal hernia, but also with a low complication rate.
