Abstract:

Objective

To analyze the effect of simple vaccum sealing drainage in the treatment of superficial surgical site infection after inguinal hernia repair.

Methods

A retrospective analysis of 32 patients with superficial surgical site infection after inguinal hernia repair admitted to Nanjing Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University (Nanjing First Hospital) from January 2016 to August 2022 was performed. Patients were divided into routine dressings group (14 cases) and simple vaccum sealing drainage group (18 cases) according to the different wound dressing methods. The routine dressings group was treated with conventional dressings after wound debridement, while the simple vaccum sealing drainage group was treated with simple vaccum sealing drainage after wound debridement. The wound healing time, frequency of dressings change, improvement of anxiety and depression, and discharge satisfaction were compared between the two groups.

Results

Both groups were cured and discharged from hospital. The complete wound healing time and frequency of dressings change of the patients in the simple vaccum sealing drainage group were significantly lower than those in the routine dressings group, and the discharge satisfaction was higher than that of the routine dressings group, the negative emotions of the patients in the simple vaccum sealing drainage group were significantly relieved, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion

In the treatment of superficial surgical site infection after inguinal hernia repair, the simple vaccum sealing drainage can effectively accelerate wound healing and reduce the number of dressing changes, improve patients' negative emotions and satisfaction at discharge.
