Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the clinical efficacy of prophylactic antibiotics in open tension-free inguinal hernia repair for obese patients.

Methods

From June 2016 to June 2019, 80 obese patients with inguinal hernia who were treated by open tension-free inguinal hernia repair in Chizhou city people's hospital. Patients were randomly divided into the observation group (n=40) and control group (n=40), the observation group used antibacterial drugs prophylactically during the perioperative period, while the control group did not use any antibacterial drugs. The white blood cell count, neutrophil ratio, operation time, hospital stay, basal body temperature and incision infection rate were compared between the two groups.

Results

After operation, the white blood cell count and neutrophil ratio of the two groups increased (P<0.05), but there was no statistical difference between the groups (P>0.05). There was no statistical difference between the two groups in operation, hospitalization time, basal body temperature and incision infection rate (P>0.05).

Conclusion

For obese patients, prophylactic antibiotics in inguinal hernia repair has no significant effect on the promotion of wound healing and prevention of incision infection, and the aseptic surgical principle should be followed to avoid prophylactic antibiotics.
