Abstract:

Objective

To explore the effect of CICARE communication mode on discharge readiness of day surgery patients.

Methods

A total of 268 patients who underwent inguinal hernia day surgery from July 1 to December 30, 2021 were selected as the control group, and 280 patients who underwent inguinal hernia day surgery from January 1 to June 30, 2022 were selected as the CICARE group. The control group implemented traditional nursing, while the CICARE group implemented clinical nursing pathway based on CICARE communication process management design. Each nursing path was set and implemented according to six elements: connect, introduce, communicate, ask, respond and exit. The scores of readiness for discharge and quality of discharge guidance were compared between the two groups.

Results

The score of readiness for discharge in the CICARE group was higher than that in the control group, and the CICARE group was also better than the control group in terms of their own condition, adaptive ability, disease knowledge and anticipatory support (P<0.05). The scores of discharge guidance quality, actual content and guidance skills in the CICARE group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).

Conclusions

Application of CICARE communication model in the clinical nursing pathway of day surgery patient management can effectively improve the quality of discharge guidance and discharge readiness of patients. This management model can be promoted and applied in nursing management in the same field.
