Abstract:

Objective

To explore the efficacy of Lichtenstein repair in the treatment of inguinal hernia.

Methods

722 cases of patients with inguinal hernia underwent Lichtenstein repair Nan'an hospital from January 2010 to December 2015 were retrospectively analyzed. The surgical records, postoperative hernia recurrence, chronic pain and scrotal hematoma were reviewed and recorded.

Results

There were 15 cases of hernia recurrence, 2 cases of chronic pain, 19 cases of scrotal hematoma or seroma, and 3 cases of surgical site infection. Of these, hernia recurrence was mainly due to the large ring and incomplete transverse fascia, accounting for 13 cases.

Conclusion

Lichtenstein repair has a low risk in the treatment of inguinal hernia, and less postoperative complications. However, there is a high recurrence rate for the patients who have large inner ring and incomplete abdominal transverse fascia. In clinic, it can use individual treatment based on preoperative judgment or specific circumstances, such as the size of the hernia ring and abdominal fascia integrity to further determine the surgical method, to reduce the risk of recurrence after surgery.
