Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the value and significance of the use of medical glue in laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal hernia repair (TEP) in reducing the postoperative inguinal region seroma.

Methods

From January 2016 to March 2017, the clinical data of 60 patients undergoing TEP in Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were randomly divided into observation group (30 cases using medical glue) and control group (30 cases not using medical glue). The incidence of postoperative seroma in 2 groups was observed and compared.

Results

All the patients in the 2 groups had smooth operations and no recent recurrence. The incidence of seroma was lower in the observation group than in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion

The application of medical glue in TEP is effective to prevent the occurrence of seroma after TEP operation, and it is worthy of clinical application.
