Abstract:

Inguinal hernia is hernia that occurs in the inguinal region and is the most common type of various hernias. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (LIHR) is currently the main surgical procedure for inguinal hernia in clinical practice, accounting for approximately 10% of all surgical procedures, with various complication rates ranging from 2% to 20%. Early complications include surgical incisional pain, urinary retention, hematoma/seroma at the surgical site, and surgical site infection; late complications include chronic pain, sexual dysfunction, mesh infection, and hernia recurrence. Postoperative complications contribute to psychological distress, physical discomfort, longer recovery times, extra medical expenses, and a substantial decline in patients' quality of life. How to reduce postoperative complications, accelerate recovery, and improve patients' satisfaction with medical care is the current focus of attention. This article reviews the types, causes, risk factors, and interventions of postoperative complications of LIHR, to identify high-risk patients in advance, control risk factors individually, and adopt effective interventions, to reduce the occurrence of postoperative complications of inguinal hernia.
