Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic trans-abdominal preperitoneal hernia repair (TAPP) for recurrent inguinal hernia.

Methods

The data of 52 patients treated with TAPP in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University Medical School from January 2019 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The causes of recurrence and the clinical effects of laparoscopic surgery were analyzed by intraoperative observation, presence or absence of conversion, postoperative complications (seroma, postoperative pain), and postoperative hospital stay.

Results

In 52 cases, 18 cases (34.62%) had recurrence in situ, and 34 cases (65.38%) had new recurrence. 3 cases (5.77%) who underwent TAPP were converted to open surgery. There were 5 cases (9.62%) of complications, with no serious complications. All patients were discharged successfully.

Conclusion

The application of TAPP hernia repair in recurrent hernia after anterior approach inguinal hernia repair is safe, reliable and feasible. Careful operation can avoid secondary injury and other serious complications.
