Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of numerical rating scale (NRS) on pain and sleep quality in patients with inguinal hernia after operation.

Methods

78 patients with inguinal hernia hospitalized in the Eighth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital from January 2018 to June 2019 were randomly divided into control group and observation group, with 38 cases in control group and 40 cases in observation group. Open inguinal herniorrhaphy was performed in both groups. The patients in the observation group were evaluated with NRS in 30 minutes after operation. The dosage of ibuprofen sustained-release tablets was determined according to the score. The pain score was given every 12 hours, and the dosage of ibuprofen was adjusted according to the score. The patients in the control group were given ibuprofen in 6 hours after operation, 300 mg/time, twice a day. Tramadol hydrochloride injection was given to both groups for analgesia in case of outbreak pain. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to evaluate the degree of pain and sleep quality of patients in the two groups on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day after operation. Pain nursing satisfaction was compared.

Results

There were no significant differences in operation time, intraoperative bleeding volume and hospitalization time between the two groups (P>0.05). The VAS pain score and PSQI score of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group on the 1st, 3rd and 7th day after operation (P<0.05). The satisfaction rate of pain nursing in the observation group was 92.50% higher than 55.26% in the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion

NRS guided post-operative analgesia for inguinal hernia patients is helpful to relieve pain, improve sleep quality and improve patient satisfaction with post-operative analgesia.
