Abstract:

Objective

To carry out the comparative analysis of the curative efficacy of transabdominal preperitoneal prosthesis (TAPP) and totally extraperitoneal prosthesis (TEP).

Methods

The clinical data of 188 cases of laparoscopic herniorrhaphy in Zhuolu Hospital from January 2014 to January 2017 was retrospectively analyzed, in which 102 cases were treated by TAPP and 86 cases by TEP. The operative time, intraoperative bleeding volume, postoperative hospitalization time, and postoperative complications (pain, hematoma or serum swelling, urinary retention, patch infection, recurrence, etc.) were compared between the two groups.

Results

There was no statistically significant difference between TAPP group and TEP group (P>0.05) in terms of hospitalization index (operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hospitalization time). There was no statistical significance of comparative difference in postoperative complications (pain, hematoma or serum swelling, urinary retention, patch infection, recurrence) between the two groups (P>0.05).

Conclusion

Both TAPP and TEP are safe and effective methods for the treatment of inguinal hernia. The choice of operation methods should be carried based on the experience of the operator and the principle of individualized treatment of inguinal hernia.
