Abstract:

Incisional hernia is a significant complication of abdominal wall surgery. With the increase in the rate of general surgical procedures, the occurrence of incisional hernias is becoming more frequent. Over time, an incisional hernia can lead to conditions such as irreducible hernia, giant abdominal wall hernia, partial intestinal obstruction, incarcerated hernia, or strangulated hernia. If not addressed promptly, these conditions can severely affect the patient's health and even be life-threatening. Recurrent incisional hernias account for approximately 20% of all incisional hernias. Therefore, our study aims to reduce the risk of recurrent incisional hernia occurrence by collecting relevant literature, analyzing the factors associated with incisional hernia recurrence, and reviewing the forefront treatment concepts for recurrent incisional hernias. This comprehensive review seeks to provide new insights for the prevention and treatment of recurrent incisional hernias.
