Analysis of the effect of postoperative ice compress treatment on indirect inguinal hernia

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of postoperative ice compress treatment on the early curative effect of patients with indirect inguinal hernia.

Methods

A total of 92 patients who received tension-free inguinal hernia repair in Meishan People's Hospital from June 2020 to June 2021 were selected and randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 46 patients in each group. The experimental group was given postoperative ice compress treatment, and the control group was given normal postoperative compression treatment. The postoperative local pain, bleeding and incision comfort were compared between the two groups.

Results

The visual analogue scale (VAS) scores of experimental group at 6 h and 24 h after surgery were (2.86±0.26) and (1.33±0.15), respectively, lower than those in the control group at the same time point (3.96±0.38) and (1.96±0.19), with statistical significance (P<0.05). Postoperative incision bleeding in the experimental group was significantly less than that in the control group(P<0.05). The incision comfort level in the experimental group was 95.69%, higher than that in the control group (82.61%), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Postoperative ice compress for patients with indirect inguinal hernia can relieve local pain, reduce incision bleeding and improve incision comfort.
