Abstract:
Objective To investigate the clinical experiences and outcomes of Lichtenstein approach in inguinal hernia repair of peritoneal dialysis patients.
Methods Retrospectively studied fourteen cases of peritoneal dialysis patients with inguinal hernias admitted to affiliated Hangzhou first people's hospital of Zhejiang university school of medicine from June 2014 to June 2018 Among the 42 cases of patients, there were 27 males (64.3%) and 15 females (35.7%). Clinical materials were collected and analyzed.
Results Mean age was (66.7±13.2) years, BMI were (19.73±3.34) kg/m2. Mean length of peritoneal dialysis was (2.27±1.65) years. All patients underwent Lichtenstein repair. The hernia sac was completely dissected or highly ligated, and the mesh was fixed with monofilament non-absorbable suture. The average operation time was (47.6±13.2) minutes. Half or full peritoneal dialysis was resumed 12 to 24 hours postoperatively. The average length of hospital stay was (5.2±2.1) days. One case had superficial incision infection and one case had peritoneal dialysis related infection. There were no severe complications such as seroma, intestinal obstruction, abdominal infection, and mesh infection. The mean follow-up time were (25.6±12.1) months. No chronic pain or recurrence cases were recorded during the follow-up period.
Conclusion Lichtenstein repair for inguinal hernia in peritoneal dialysis patients has the advantages of simple to operate, quick recovery, low incidence of complications, and does not affect the persistence of peritoneal dialysis. It is an ideal operation for peritoneal dialysis patients with inguinal hernia.
