Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application effect of acellular tissue matrix patch in inguinal hernia repair.

Methods

Retrospectively analyze the data of 301 patients (372 sides) of inguinal hernia repair from December 2015 to October 2017 in Jinan Central Hospital Affiliated Shandong University. Then compare the efficacy and complications between acellular tissue matrix (n=141) and synthetic patch (n=231) in inguinal hernia repair.

Results

In laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, operation time of using acellular tissue matrix was longer than that using synthetic patch, but there were no differences in infection, recurrence, chronic pain, seroma and postoperative hospitalization. In open hernia repair, there were no differences in the time of operation and postoperative hospitalization. One patient suffered infection and one recurrence in acellular tissue matrix group. 2 patients suffered chronic pain in synthetic patch group. Less foreign body sensation in the acellular tissue matrix group.

Conclusion

Acellular tissue matrix could be safely and effectively used to repair the inguinal hernia with defect less than 3 cm, but the cost is higher.
