Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effect of hernia sac ligation in open inguinal hernia repair.

Methods

A total of 240 cases underwent open inguinal hernia repair from January 2016 to December 2017 were included into our study. All patients were divided into two groups, including none-ligation group (observation group, n=120) and ligation group (control group, n=120). The clinical data, operation time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative hospital stay, time return to work, cost and complications were analyzed.

Results

A total of 237 cases finished procedure of follow-up with a follow-up rate of 98.75%. No statistical difference were observed of clinical data, operation time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative hospital stay, time return to work and cost between two groups (P>0.05). The differences of incidence of recurrence, chronic pain, seroma, hematoma and dysuria were not statistically (P>0.05). The difference of foreign body sensation rate was statistically significant (2.52% vs 6.78%).

Conclusion

It is not useful of hernia sac ligation to prevent recurrence in open inguinal hernia repair, besides it may increase incidence of foreign body sensation.

Key words: Hernia, inguinal, Recurrence, Chronic pain, Foreign body sensation
