Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the status and influencing factors of permanent colostomy.

Methods

From January 2018 to December 2021, 80 colorectal cancer patients who received radical abdominal perineal resection and completed permanent colostomy in Suzhou Kowloon Hospital were selected for questionnaire survey. Describe the collection of all questionnaires and the stoma impact score of the respondents. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to analyze the independent influencing factors of stoma in patients with permanent enterostomy.

Results

A total of 89 questionnaires were distributed and 80 effective questionnaires were recovered. The effective questionnaire recovery rate was 89.89%. The stoma impact scores of the investigated subjects ranged from 0 to 32, with an average of (11.23±5.88) points. A total of 31 patients were judged as having a small impact on life (38.75%), and 49 patients were judged as having a great impact on life (61.25%). The results of univariate analysis showed that different ages, stoma cleaning frequency, postoperative time and regular contact with stoma nurses had statistical significance on the degree of stoma influence (P<0.05). The results of multivariate analysis showed that the age of patients, the frequency of stoma cleaning, postoperative time, and the regular contact with stoma nurses were the independent influencing factors of stoma (P<0.05).

Conclusion

Permanent colostomy has a great impact on the patient's quality of life. Factors including the patient's age are independent influencing factors. Medical staff need to give corresponding intervention based on the actual situation to improve the patient's quality of life after surgery.
