Research progress of complications after inguinal hernia repair in the elderly

Abstract:

Inguinal hernia repair (IHR) is one of the common operations in general surgery. As the only means to cure inguinal hernia, it has the effect of improving patients' quality of life and avoiding the risk of watch-and-wait approach. Inguinal hernia has a high morbidity in the elderly, and the incidence of postoperative complications of IHR in elderly patients is higher than that in young and middle-aged patients, which poses certain challenges for clinicians. Recently, the diagnosis and treatment of postoperative complications in elderly patients with inguinal hernia have been widely concerned. This article reviews the complications that need to be focused on in elderly patients after IHR.
