Application of continuous nursing intervention in elderly inguinal hernia patients undergoing day operation

Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application effect of the intervention method that combines family members' synchronous education and continuous nursing intervention in nursing care of elderly patients with inguinal hernia during daytime surgery.

Methods

120 elderly patients with inguinal hernia who underwent day operation in Hubei Provincial Hospital from August 2017 to August 2018 were selected and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 60 cases in each group. Both groups of patients were given the same nursing method during the hospital treatment and discharged according to the routine nursing guidance. The observation group was given continuous nursing intervention of family members' synchronous health education after discharge, while the control group was given routine follow-up after discharge. Curative effect index and satisfaction score of day surgery rehabilitation evaluation were compared between the two groups.

Results

The reasonable use of drugs, daily activity ≥2 000 steps, awareness of daily life precautions, awareness of nursing method in urinary retention, indwelling catheterization, constipation, incision swelling, scrotal edema, dressing change, scrotum nursing, foreign body sensation in the incision, knowing the time for follow-up visits and re-visiting compliance of the observation group were significantly better than those of the control group (P<0.05). The doctor-patient communication and emotional support, and the health education satisfaction scores of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion

The application of synchronized health education to family members in the continuation care of elderly inguinal hernia day surgery can effectively improve the rehabilitation effect and increase nursing satisfaction.
