Abstract:

Objective

To explore the feasibility of a hernia needle modification in single-port laparoscopic percutaneous extraperitoneal closure (SPLPEC) for pediatric inguinal hernia.

Methods

During June 2009 and January 2018, 3 739 children with inguinal hernia were performed SPLPEC by single-hooked core hernia needle, two-hooked core hernia needle and two-hooked core hernia needle with hydrodissection retrospectively. The operative and follow-up data were collected and analyzed.

Results

Comparing with single-hooked core hernia needle, both two-hooked core hernia needle and two-hooked core hernia needle with hydrodissection took remarkable advantages in operation time, complications and recurrence. In two-hooked core hernia needle group, in case of large hernia due to peritoneum fold, aditional working instrument and more operation time was required. While in two-hooked core hernia needle with hydrodissection, such cases did not spend more operation time and were solely done.

Conclusion

SPLPEC using the two-hooked core hernia needle with hydrodissection can be accomplished within just one path through abdominal wall, has short operation time, low incidence of complication and low recurrent rate. Besides, this device can also meet the needs of various inner ring, should be known by more pediatric surgeons.
