Clinical diagnosis and surgical treatment of obturator hernia

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the clinical characteristics, diagnostic methods and surgical treatment of obturator hernia.

Methods

A retrospective analysis was conducted on six patients with obturator hernia who were admitted to the affiliated hospital of Yangzhou University from January 2014 to August 2017.

Results

Five patients were admitted due to acute abdominal pain, one patient was admitted due to the pain of right thigh root. The six patients were diagnosed by abdominal CT scan, and the obturator hernia diagnosis was clear. All of the patients underwent emergency operation. The average operation time was (77.5±29.2) minutes, the mean intraoperative blood loss was (42.5±30.9) ml, and the average hospital stay was (11.5±2.4) days. 1 case of postoperative incision fat liquefaction and 1 case of postoperative pulmonary infection were occurred. All the patients showed a successful recovery.

Conclusion

Obturator hernia is a rare disease, and the misdiagnosis rate is very high. It can be early diagnosed by CT scan, operation is the only effective treatment, and early operation can reduce the morbidity and mortality of patients.
